INTERNATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

*INTERNATIONAL OPPORTUNITY* Early this year, one of my friends chatted me up.           He said he got an offer for me in Europe, which was going to last for just a month till it expires. The only thing he asked me to get was "an International Passport" and he would it from there. Unfortunately, I didn't have an International Passport. When I decided to go for the Emergency Passport, I was highly disappointed.     That was how I Missed that Opportunity.  ✓Once in a While, Opportunities will meet you. When it does, how Prepared are You? *Dear Reader,* *By Next Year, have the following handy!* 1. Professional Curriculum Vitae 2. National Identity Card 3. Digital Skill Certificate 4. Reasons Why Your Scholarships Application May Fail

Image
SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS 10 Reasons why yours will Fail Scholarships You want to study abroad. That dream does not come cheaply, and for many international students a scholarship is the only way to get there. So why are so many scholarship applications sent straight to the bin? 1. You don’t qualify for the scholarship Let’s set some realistic expectations. Every scholarship – and there are a gazillion of them out there – has very specific requirements. So don’t bother applying if they require a straight-A student and you generally get C’s. Or if the scholarship is for Nigerian citizens, and you are from Singapore. Or if the scholarship is for post-grad students and you’re studying a diploma. It’s just not going to happen, and you’ll be wasting your time. And of course, there’s no point in applying for a university scholarship if you haven’t yet been accepted for that program! 2. You forgot to research all the options It takes time to prepare a good scholarship application, ...

SCHOLARSHIPS APPLICATION TIPS

Image
SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION TIPS 1*Meet all application deadlines.* Use a calendar or planner, make a schedule, and stick to it. If you miss a deadline, even by just one day, you may not be considered. Gather application materials early. Give yourself plenty of time to complete each step. Applications that have been rushed look sloppy, and incomplete applications probably won’t be accepted. Don’t ignore small awards. Small awards can add up. Plus, the larger the award, the more competition you’ll face. *Request letters of recommendation early.* Some applications require letters of recommendation. Think carefully about who should write these letters and choose people who can speak to your strengths and ability to overcome your weaknesses (letters from family members are generally a no-no). Give your recommenders no less than two weeks notice so they have time to write the letter. Be prepared to provide them with additional information about yourself or the scholarship. Make sure...
